Purely Natural Alpine
Woven Axminster · 15 colourways — five textural designs in three undyed shades
The Alpine Collection is the textural half of Brintons' Purely Natural range. Where the botanicals give you a drawn pattern, Alpine gives you structure: five designs — Abilene, Arlington, Conway, Sitka and Taos — that from standing height read almost as a plain, with the interest in the weave rather than in a picture. At 1431 g/m2 it is the densest of the Purely Natural ranges.

Arlington 3 colourways
Conway 3 colourways
Sitka 3 colourways
Taos 2 colourways
Not pictured: Taos Ice — this colourway is in the range and on display in the showroom, but we do not yet have a photograph of the pile good enough to put next to the rest.
A photograph of carpet on a screen is only ever a guide — wool takes colour differently to a monitor, and daylight in your own room changes it again. The samples are on display in the showroom, and we are happy to book one out for you to live with for a few days before you decide.

What it’s like to live with
Where it works
A flat plain shows every footprint and vacuum line; a strong pattern is a decision you keep liking for fifteen years. A texture like Sitka or Conway does neither, so it goes under furniture, up the stairs and along the landing without the house feeling busy. Ice, Cloud and Bamboo shift with the daylight, which suits a bedroom.
Self match, short repeat
Self match means the design lines up straight across the width instead of stepping sideways, which makes it straightforward to lay. Abilene repeats every 26cm; Taos is longer at 82cm. On stairs a 26cm repeat gives each tread and riser more than one full repeat, so the pattern picks up cleanly at every step and a winder is not guesswork.
Worth knowing
4.00m is the only width: anything wider takes a seam, and there is no runner width. At 1431 g/m2 it is heavy and dense, and wants a firm underlay rather than a thick soft one so the texture keeps its definition. Plain suction, blot spills, nothing bleach-based on undyed wool; the shades vary slightly from fleece to fleece.
Why it matters who lays it
Woven carpet is fitted differently
We have been selling Axminster from this shop for over sixty-five years, and our fitters are time-served men who work with woven carpet regularly rather than once in a blue moon.
That matters more than it used to. Something like ninety-five per cent of what goes down in British homes today is tufted, so a great many fitters have simply never had much woven carpet through their hands.
A woven carpet asks for things a tufted one does not. A pattern has to be set out on paper before anything is cut. A repeat has to be carried true up a flight of stairs and round a winder. Pile direction has to run the same way through every piece, or a single colour reads as two.
None of it is difficult for someone who does it week in and week out. All of it goes wrong in the hands of someone who does not.

Texture is the one thing a photograph genuinely cannot show — Conway and Sitka look almost the same on a screen and nothing like each other under your hand. The Alpine designs are on the displays, where you can feel how much structure each one has. The shades change with the light, so a sample goes out too, or we bring them over and measure up.
See Purely Natural Alpine in your own light
Woven carpet never reads correctly on a screen, and it rarely reads correctly under showroom lighting either. Come and look at the displays, then take a sample home with you — we are happy to book one out so you can live with it for a few days and see it against your own walls, at your own windows, morning and evening. If it is easier, we will bring samples out to you and measure up while we are there.
