Blossom

Blossom is a single design — a delicate oriental floral woven as an Axminster in an 80% wool, 20% nylon blend on Ulster's looms in Portadown — in two colourways, Camellia and Opal. That is the whole range. It is for the person who already knows the look they want and would rather not work through forty alternatives to arrive at it.

What it’s like to live with

Where it works

Rooms where you look at the floor: a dining room, a sitting room, a main bedroom, a hall in a period house. On stairs the 91cm repeat gives a proper piece of the design on each tread rather than a fragment, though every riser wants cutting to keep the flowers running true down the flight. On a winder that is careful work.

Setting out the 91cm repeat

Self match means the pattern lines up straight across the width rather than stepping sideways as a half drop does. Matching across a seam is direct and setting out a landing is straightforward. It is still a substantial repeat, so expect to need more carpet than the floor area suggests, and longer offcuts than a small pattern leaves.

Worth knowing

A floral hides things a plain cannot — tracking down the middle of a hall, the shadow where a chair sits. At 80% wool the pile recovers rather than staying flattened, and Blossom is rated extra heavy wear despite how light the design looks: the delicacy is in the drawing, not the construction. Blot spills rather than rubbing.

See it

Camellia and Opal are a warm-versus-cool decision, and they separate far more clearly in daylight than under any showroom light. Both are on display at Lostock Hall, and we will book the samples out so you can settle it in your own rooms — or bring them to you, with Glenmoy and Glenavy alongside if you want to compare, and measure up at no charge.
