Purely Natural Twist
Woven Wilton · 8 undyed plain colours · four widths from 1.00m to 4.00m
Purely Natural Twist is the plain twist in Brintons' undyed collection: no dye goes near the yarn at any stage. The eight colours, Oban Cream at the pale end to Darley Graphite at the dark one, are the natural colours of British fleece. Woven Wilton, 100% wool, extra heavy domestic, four widths including a genuine 1.00m runner.
Purely Natural Twist designs and colours
The same eight shade names are also used for Purely Natural Chroma, which is a different carpet — an Axminster with a smooth velvety pile, lighter in weight and rated Heavy Domestic. Same fleece colours, different surface. Worth being clear which one you have seen before ordering.

A photograph of carpet on a screen is only ever a guide — wool takes colour differently to a monitor, and daylight in your own room changes it again. The samples are on display in the showroom, and we are happy to book one out for you to live with for a few days before you decide.

What it’s like to live with
Where it works
The twist pile is what makes it a whole-house carpet: the yarn is given extra turns and set, so each tuft stands as a point and springs back from a footfall. Extra heavy domestic, so hall, stairs and landing are well within it. A 4.00m roll crosses most sitting rooms without a seam, and the 1.00m is a true runner width.
Read the eight as two ladders
Oban Cream, Lowick Beige, Brecon Bamboo and Wentworth Brown are the warm side, off-white through to mid-brown, at home with oak, pine and yellow-toned paintwork. Tansley Cloud, Whitbeck Grey, Stiperstones Fossil and Darley Graphite are the cool side, against the greys most houses round here are decorated in. Choosing the wrong half disappoints more than the wrong step within one.
Worth knowing
The colour is the fleece, so a slight natural variation is built in and nothing in it can fade. There is no dye lot to match to either: take all the carpet for a job in one go rather than adding to it a year later. Every piece is laid with the pile running one way — two laid pile against pile read as two colours in daylight.
Why it matters who lays it
Woven carpet is fitted differently
We have been selling Axminster from this shop for over sixty-five years, and our fitters are time-served men who work with woven carpet regularly rather than once in a blue moon.
That matters more than it used to. Something like ninety-five per cent of what goes down in British homes today is tufted, so a great many fitters have simply never had much woven carpet through their hands.
A woven carpet asks for things a tufted one does not. A pattern has to be set out on paper before anything is cut. A repeat has to be carried true up a flight of stairs and round a winder. Pile direction has to run the same way through every piece, or a single colour reads as two.
None of it is difficult for someone who does it week in and week out. All of it goes wrong in the hands of someone who does not.

Eight undyed shades are what a screen gets wrong — photographed, half come out the same beige, and Tansley Cloud against Whitbeck Grey does not survive it. On the displays the warm four and the cool four sit side by side and the split is obvious in seconds. We will book a sample out for your own light, or bring them over and measure up.
See Purely Natural Twist in your own light
Woven carpet never reads correctly on a screen, and it rarely reads correctly under showroom lighting either. Come and look at the displays, then take a sample home with you — we are happy to book one out so you can live with it for a few days and see it against your own walls, at your own windows, morning and evening. If it is easier, we will bring samples out to you and measure up while we are there.
